ชลบุรี ชลบุรี เป็นชื่อจังหวัดที่ติดกับอ่าวไทยแห่งหนึ่งในภาคตะวันออก ซึ่งมีสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวที่มีชื่อเสียงหลายแห่งของประเทศตั้งอยู่ นอกจากด้านอุตสาหกรรมการท่องเที่ยวแล้ว ในขณะเดียวกันนั้นยังถือว่าเป็นจังหวัดที่มีความสำคัญทางเศรษฐกิจเป็นอย่างมาก ในด้านพาณิชยกรรมและอุตสาหกรรมต่าง ๆ ของประเทศแห่งหนึ่งด้วย ในอดีตจังหวัดชลบุรีนั้นเคยเป็นแหล่งที่ตั้งของเมืองท่าที่มีความสำคัญมาก แม้แต่ในปัจจุบันนี้ก็ยังคงเป็นที่ตั้งของท่าเรือที่มีความสำคัญของประเทศรองจากท่าเรือกรุงเทพ นั่นก็คือท่าเรือแหลมฉบัง เนื่องจากมีทำเลที่ตั้งเหมาะสม จังหวัดชลบุรีนั้นมีอาณาเขตติดกับจังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา จังหวัดระยอง และจังหวัดจันทบุรี
จังหวัดชลบุรีนั้นเคยเป็นชุมชนโบราณที่เคยมีมนุษย์ยุคหินใหม่อาศัยอยู่มาตั้งแต่สมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์แล้วเพราะว่าเคยมีการขุดค้นด้านโบราณคดีแล้วพบร่องรอยของชุมชนโบราณก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ตรงแถวที่ราบลุ่มแม่น้ำพานทองซึ่งอยู่ในบริเวณวัดโคกพนมดี ตำบลท่าข้าม อำเภอพนัสนิคม ซึ่งแหล่งโบราณคดีที่ค้นพบในครั้งนั้นได้พบสิ่งมีคุณค่าทางโบราณคดีหลายอย่าง เช่น ขวานหินขัด เครื่องประดับจำพวกกำไล ลูกปัด เครื่องปั้นดินเผาแบบใช้เชือกทาบ และได้พบซากของอาหารทะเลอีกด้วยจึงทำให้ทราบว่าบริเวณนี้อยู่ใกล้ชายฝั่งทะเลมากกว่าปัจจุบันนี้มาก แหล่งโบราณคดีที่กล่าวอ้างทั้งหมดข้างต้นนั้นจึงเป็นหลักฐานยืนยันส่วนหนึ่งที่แสดงให้เห็นถึงความเป็นมาอันแสนยาวนานของจังหวัดชลบุรี ชลบุรี ชลบุรี
